Postal (2007)

Dir: Uwe Boll

A bad day turns to genocidal disaster for Zack Ward in this hilarious satire from the actually-good-now-no-really Uwe Boll. When a terrorist plot to hide bird flu in cuddly penis toys clashes with a mad religious cult's raid on a nazi theme park things go... Oh, what's the use? You get the idea. This is madness. Just go see it. The humour might well be tasteless and it's pretty all-encompassing with its targets but I found it strangely uplifting (not to mention deeply, deeply funny). As coarse and vulgar as it often is, you could put this film in a time capsule and it would near-perfectly sum up the anxiety and absurdity of Western culture in the early 21st century. There's a surprising sophistry to the screenplay and the production values are fantastic. 100 minutes zips along in a furore of gags and gunfire, both of which hit far more often than they miss. A genuine treat. ***1/2
